It’s been rough my last grandmother passed last Monday, and her funeral was today. Some family members were difficult, and I felt as if I had to be a boulder in a stream rather than allow myself to grieve.
I know it’s a strange connection because I didn’t know him, or know much about him, yet the fact that a father was assassinated in front of his child has weighed heavily on me as a fellow dad. Perhaps it is the grief of losing my grandmother, but I have been torn up for his children.
The one positive aspect of the past week is that my faith feels stronger. Being part of a supportive church has helped my wife and me move beyond old church hurt and return to where we need to be; crises also have a way of breaking through walls and making old wounds seem less important.
