I need dads who are renovation contractors or handymen. I am installing a frameless sliding shower door that sits on top of a tub. Each glass panel is 10 mm thick and weighs about 70 lb. Because the system is frameless, most of the weight rests on the top rail. The problem: the top rail mounts to the wall at both ends, but there is no stud—just porcelain tile and 1/2″ drywall. I found toggle bolts rated for 265 lb in 1/2″ drywall. Can I trust them? The glass panels are heavy. One panel is fixed; the sliding one just hangs. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
Update: I installed the sliding doors this weekend. They are solid. I used snap toggle bolts for the wall mounts and silicone‑sealed the fixed panel. I won’t do chin‑ups or pull‑ups on the bar, but it feels solid enough to support about 130 lb of 1/2″ glass. Thank you for the reassurance. You guys are the best!
