My son was born premature, and we spent the next two months in the NICU. The nurses are amazing, and your son is in great hands. Not being able to comfort him and dealing with everything parents go through isn’t the happy birth you probably expected. Staying strong is hard, and it’s even harder for the mom she naturally wants to nurture him but can’t. A dad’s job is to keep his kids warm and feeling safe; a mom comforts a nd nourishes just by holding them. So make sure you both get that time in. Also, be there for your wife, as I’m sure you are. These moments can make or break your relationship. You sound like you’re doing great so far. Stay strong, and focus more on gratitude than on the negatives. Unfortunately, some parents aren’t as lucky you’ll see that in the NICU. I saw a lot during our stay, and I was young and pretty clueless. I’ll never forget it.
