I don’t t hink Montana is much cheaper. But those winters…fuq that.
When we left the Chicago area, Dallas, TX & Charlotte, NC were on our short list. We ended up in NC. Hindsight, should’ve given more thought to SC. Geography is great close enough to mountains or the coast for a weekend trip. SC taxes and the overall cost of living are better.
Keep in mind the specific areas you’re looking at within each state. Even in a big metro like Dallas, you’ll still run into some of the politics you’re trying to dodge on a more local level.
So my vote for you would be the Greenville area.
