Hey everyone, I’ve seen a few posts about dads getting criticized over child support, so here’s my story.
My son has lived with me and my new wife since 2020.
In August this year I asked my ex‑wife to start giving my son a weekly allowance (£10). I’ve never received or asked for money from her since I gained custody.
My new wife and I cover all of my son’s costs. We thought, now that he’s 13, a little pocket money would be helpful. When I spoke to my ex, she flat‑out refused to give him any, although she’s happy to give him money when he’s with her.
Since then my ex has bought clothes and shoes for my son, but she won’t let them leave her house (he barely visits—at most once a month for a couple of nights).
The final straw was when my son came home and told.me he’d just got a tracksuit bought for him. When I asked where it was, he said he had to leave it at his mum’s.
So, at the beginning of December I applied for child support from her.
Shortly after Christmas she contacted me and started threatening me about custody of my son, etc., because I’d applied for child support. She said to me, “I don’t see why I have to pay you anything.”
A day later child support emailed me confirming my ex has to pay me £60 a week. I screenshot the email and texted it to my ex. She replied, “this figure is wrong, I’ve done a calculation and it’s nowhere near that amount, I’m contacting the child support agency now!” She then did.
The next day I received an email from child support stating she no longer has to pay £60 a week; she now has to pay £96. 😂😂😂
I don’t know what she told them, but it’s now costing her an extra £36 a week.
I feel like this is a win for all the dads out there and for equal rights. 😂😂😂
