How can I install a toilet flange over uneven tile and glued PVC?

any dads here got a spark of genius for this toilet swap? I can’t drop the flange because the tile was cut way out, and the PVC ring is glued to the pipe climbing up from the basement. I can’t track down any 2‑piece spacers, and the old flange was installed before they glued the PVC together, screwed in four spots to the sub‑floor with a bunch of washers to lift it high enough. I ordered a 2‑piece 4” flange but I’m stuck on how to keep it floating, doing my best to nail the “washer” trick they used before!

Go get some floor leveler mix it and pour it in..
Then set the toilet..

Your best bet is to cut it underneath, inside the basement. Use a coupling and connect it where you cut it with a new pipe. Then cut that pipe where you need it on the floor and carefully put your Falange on. It’s far better to do it correctly than to rush and have it fail.

I realize I need an internal pipe cutter. Then I carefully run the new flange flush to the floor, sink long screws into the subfloor while I keep the flange level, take two pieces of foam and glue them under where the toilet bolts go, and finally I pack that open area full of grout.

I’d fill it with wet concrete. Grab an inside pipe cutter to yank out the old flange, or snap on a repair ring that hugs the existing flange. Good luck!

Measure the pipe size before cutting; however, a replacement flange is provided for this purpose. Cut the pipe from the interior, allowing the new flange to fit inside the existing pipe.

I don’t know who needs to hear this (obv everyone), but the flange belongs right on top of the finished floor! Anywho, they make a stainless ring that will retrofit with that existing partial flange.

Make a spacer now. Get a tile of the same thickness, cut it into two pieces, and slide them under the flange that’s best. Or use something similar. The only other option is to replace the tile and cut it to fit around the pipe under the flange.

Remove the flange from the pipe in the crawlspace as I did, and install the largest compatible connection. I also replaced the subfloor. Do not use a wax seal. Position the flange flush with the floor. Apply epoxy to fill and coat any metal components. Test‑fit all parts. Use a pipe cement that includes primer. Avoid sealing with caulk.

So, I’ve got the Raptor inside the cutter. I’ll cut it as short as I can, then grab an Oatey twist and set the replacement flange. I’ll drill with a masonry bit and use Tapcon screws into the cement. I need to make sure it’s level and no more than a quarter‑inch above the finished floor. And I’ve got to check that the toilet bolt holes are centered.

I'm totally new at this, and just realized the flange is still glued into the drain pipe I thought the flange was just the metal ring! 🤦🏻‍♂️

If I were you, I’d pour self‑leveler around the pipe up to the height of the tile, let it dry, then attach the flange and finally the toilet.

Slice off the top flange, then carve into the PVC of the remaining flange in the pipe and chip it away with a screwdriver. Slam a new flange in at the right height and dump some concrete into that gap. It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty remember, it’s under a toilet. Just make sure it’s solid!

Pour self‑leveling cement around the existing flange. That’s what I did. My toilet was leaking, so I pulled it off and found the previous homeowner had completely hacked the original installation. I sealed the pipe to the floor, then poured the SELF‑LEVELING cement and let it set for about 24 hours before reinstalling the toilet.

Go to Home Depot and get a replacement flange insert. It slides into the waste pipe and has a rubber gasket on the outside. Problem solved. The flange sits on top of what you already have, and you can put the toilet back on with a wax ring.
