Wondering how to deal with the neighbor kid who’s my son’s best friend. He’s s even. It’s not that he’s a bad kid—he’s just so different from my son: loud, all over the place, constantly cracking inappropriate jokes, making weird little moaning noises, and, honestly, downright annoying. And it’s slowly changing my son. We teach our values at home, and he’s usually respectful—except when he’s with this friend. I try not to sound rude, but it’s getting way too much to keep quiet; I can’t keep telling the kid he’s not allowed here. I know it starts at home and isn’t the kid’s fault—but 😅

Let your friend know he’s welcome in your house, but just give him a heads‑up that you run things a bit differently here. Lay out the rules for him and kindly ask that he respects them.

Then, in a separate conversation with your son, tell him you’d like him to hang out with that friend but only while they’re inside your house.

I agree with the previous comment. Let the kid’s parents know what he’s like, and if nothing changes, once he’s in your house you get to call the shots. If he keeps misbehaving after you tell him he can’t do that in your place, he won’t be welcome any longer. Your son will thank you later.

Take the time to be patient with him if he's on the spectrum, and gently let him know that certain behaviors aren't welcome in your home. If he wants to stay, he needs to respect your house rules. You may have to remind him many times, but stay consistent.
