How do I find a hobby I’m truly passionate about?

Hi Dads,

I feel I don’t have any hobbies or passion. Everything I used to enjoy is just “meh” now.

I don’t know how to find my passion. What are some of your hobbies and how did you get into them?

NFL: I started watching a few years ago, got really into it, and it changed my life.
Hiking: It’s even better with a dog. I’ve been to places I never thought I’d see while hiking with my dog. Before, I lacked motivation to go alone. The dog is an excellent companion.

Fishing, cigars, gaming, cooking.
I fish with my kids, smoke cigars with my wife, game solo, and cook for everyone.
I don’t always have time for all of them, but I fit one or two in each day.

I'm gaming during the winter and planning to hit autocross in an S550 Mustang once summer hits. I'd rather be into more adrenaline‑pumping hobbies, but it's cold in WV and there really isn’t much to do.

I like BMX racing. I got into it as a kid, and at almost 45 I still ride whenever I can. I am working on a new track closer to home. I also stay busy with my wife, kids, dogs, business, etc., and we go to the gym.

I love the GENTLEMEN’S DIECAST CLUB Community for Selective Collectors. It’s a great group to share with your kids. The club hosts live events, offers high‑quality die‑cast cars, and runs amazing giveaways. I’ve been on Facebook since November and plan to stay with the group for a long time.

For me, it's cars.
What sucks is being a car guy without a true enthusiast car... I lost my '04 Mustang GT when my daughter was 6 months old in a traffic accident (I was hit by a van, no crowds were affected, to borrow that old trope). That was more than 10 years ago. I haven't been back in a real car since.

I took the kids to a car show a couple years back and told my daughter, this is what I did before you kids came along.

I don't know if it was my tone, or what, she said something along th e lines of you're making me hate being born.

We left the show soon after she said that.

Any time I bring up even basic maintenance, it's an argument. I guess we dads are just mindless worker drones. If you're allowed your hobbies without any fighting, God bless ya.

I collect diecast cars and I also enjoy RC boating and hiking. I have to admit that I lost interest in a lot of hobbies for a while actually, in almost everything. One day, when I went to the mall, I saw a display of Hot Wheels and thought, “Those are cool.” I started collecting them again, and the thrill of the search and the hunt reignited my excitement. I’m now getting my RC cars back in action and plan to st art local racing on weekends, especially because my daughter is into it. At the end of the day, she is my motivation. Including her in my hobbies has helped me pull myself out of the funk and the rut. I hope this helps.

One of my hobbies actually earns me money; I turned my passion for cars into a detailing business. My other hobby is carpentry, which helps around the house, and my wife always gives me projects.

I kept pushing through fast‑and‑furious marathons, over and over, until the idea was etched into my mind. Then I turned to Facebook Marketplace, filtered for a manual‑transmission car, hoping to speed up my mid‑life crisis so it would be resolved sooner. I say this from personal experience, laughing.

Try activities that get you moving and, when possible, OUTSIDE.

Golf
Fishing
Pickleball

Finding fun things that also count as exercise is a DOUBLE POSITIVE.
