Hey fellow parents who’ve had kids in preschool—have you dealt with drop-offs being super up and down? Like, one day it’s smooth sailing, and the next, it’s a total struggle with crying and not wanting to leave. I’ve noticed this back-and-forth since my kids started getting used to preschool. My youngest, who’s 2, has had the hardest time compared to my 3.5-year-old.
But lately, my older one has been saying in the morning that he doesn’t want to go to preschool. When we ask why, he gives different reasons—doesn’t like the teachers or says other kids are being mean to him. But it’s hard to tell bc I’ve seen him hug the teachers and play with the other kids. He doesn’t mention specific kids consistently, and when he explains, it’s stuff like someone said something mean.or he got hit or pushed. But, tbh, that’s just normal kid stuff, right? Plus, I know he’s not totally innocent bc I’ve seen him act that way toward others and even his little brother. So it’s not like he’s just the victim.
We’ve asked the teachers if they’ve noticed anything, like conflicts with certain kids or in specific situations, but they can’t point to any clear pattern. They just say it’s typical for kids that age—there are ups and downs with how happy they are about going to preschool.
Have you guys gone through this too? Like, periods where your kids are into it one day and not the next, and it just comes and goes?
