What Music Players Are Safe and Simple for a 10-Year-Old?

A tech question: My daughter is soon turning 10 At that age, you want to hang out in your room with friends and listen to music. When I was 10, in the early '90s, we solved this by getting a compact stereo system with a CD player. And then saving up for CDs. These days, things are different. Music is played via Spotify (or similar services) and then, for example, streamed to a Bluetooth speaker. If I don't want to give my 10-year-old her own phone/computer/tablet yet, what solutions are there for her to listen to the music she chooses? Are there music players that only play music and can't do anything else?

The simplest solution is to give her a phone with a Bluetooth speaker and Spotify. If you're against having your kids use a phone, maybe a Google Home or Alexa would work. Just connect your Spotify to Google Home or Alexa, and they can play music using voice commands. Best regards.

We have a Google Home in the kitchen. You can ask it to play music from Spotify. It's probably the simplest solution.

If you're looking for something she can use at home, you could consider getting her a used laptop. She could also learn how to browse the internet, use word processors, and explore creative software for making music or creating illustrations, and so on. There are plenty of things she could do with a laptop, and you can find used ones at reasonable prices.

We use Google Home devices at home, which play pretty good sound. Then there's an iPad with Spotify and a playlist of songs they like. They can also say, "Hey Google, play [song name]" if they want to choose a song that's not on the playlist.
