I'm curious, for how long were you at home, and how was it? Also state where you live and work as rules vary greatly... Read that in the USA, on average, many fathers only take around 10 days of leave and fewer than 5 percent of fathers take two or more weeks of leave. Shockingly low!
Some things to know for fellow American dads about Paternity leave:
- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): Federal law provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for the birth or adoption of a child. But unfortunately, it only applies to companies with 50 or more employees. Employees must have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and 1,250 hours in the preceding year...
- Federal Employees Paid Leave Act (FEPLA): Provides paid leave for qualifying federal employees. Currently around 11 states and Washington D.C have paid family leave programs.
Employers: Many companies offer paternity leave benefits that go beyond the legal requirements of FMLA. Some paid leave, some unpaid. So in summary, paid leave varies depending on state laws and employer policies
So, what has been your experience with Paternity leave ?
