Been divorced for a year, and I’ve been trying hard to stay close with my kids—my son’s 21, my daughter’s 23. My son goes to college a couple of hours away, and my daughter moved in full‑time with her mom.
My son does text me back, it just takes a bit, which is cool since he’s busy with school. My birthday was a few days ago, and I talked with my son on Friday and again yesterday morning. He never mentioned anything about being back in town, but he actually did—he drove over to my wife’s place (that’s where he stays when he’s around) andd went out to dinner with my daughter, her boyfriend (for his birthday), and my ex.
I’m really hurt and feel disrespected. He had plenty of chances to say he was coming or even that he’d be busy, but it would’ve been nice to see him.
I try to be super understanding about his slow replies when he says he’s swamped.
How do you gentlemen handle this? I’m thinking of replying that it hurt that he was in town and didn’t make an effort to see me, but I’m not sure the best way to word it.
