No one is judging you. I’m not a “gym rat,” but I still have a long way to go. As a 40‑year‑old, I’ve been consistent in the gy m for the last two years. Before that, I struggled my whole adult life with inconsistent workouts and running. I’m benching close to 300 lb after two years; I likely started at around 180 lb. I’m a heavy guy both fat and muscle so that matters. I began at 260 lb, so not benching my body weight feels worse than a 150 lb beginner only benching 150 lb, if that makes sense.
Now that I’ve been training for a couple of years, I enjoy seeing new people stick with it. I started my journey for the same reasons you did. The first few months are tough, but eventually you figure things out, become more comfortable, and gain confidence. The amount of weight you lift doesn’t matter, because it depends on each individual’s size and goals.
