How should I respond if my partner asks me to mow when it just rained?

If your wife or girlfriend asked you to show her how to start the mower—because the front yard needs mowing, yet you haven’t because it’s rained for two days—how would you respond?

There seems to be a communication issue. As a man, I must stay on top of certain things. If I know something must be done but something blocks me, I will tell her in advance so she knows I am on top of it.

I handle it ₉₉% of the time, but when my wife’s got a day off and I’m at work, she does it. 🤷‍♀️ During fire season I’m gone for long stretches, so she keeps up on it. Usually I stay on top of the outside stuff, but it’s cool she knows how to do it and can help out when I haven’t had a chance. 👍

I would explain to her why it hasn't been done, and then show her how. I’ve always felt proud to teach my wife and daughters, helping them become more self‑reliant.

Seriously though, had this exact situation happen. Showed her the choke, deck height and PTO lever and let her have at it! What’s your go‑to tip for helping someone avoid these mix‑ups?

Probably just take it with a grain of salt she’s basically saying it’s time to get out there and mow the grass.

Demonstrate to her the process regardless. She asked a question. Show her how to begin it, and if it proves too wet, illustrate that as well.

My wife mows more than I do, and I often help her get the mower started. It's not a big deal.

You would say, “I can show you how.” The rain has stopped and it’s a little drier, so today is a good day for us to do it together. If you want to mow, I will clean up the rest of the yard.

At least once a season the wife will ask if she can use the rider… I get her a beer and hand her my headphones kiss her, straighten her hat, and let her go. She always makes it about 1/2 way through, comes back and says, “yeah… that’s boring,” lmao.

I’d rather have my wife do this than nag me about it. 😂 Hell, my wife loves cutting the grass & doing yard work. I got off early one day, cut the grass before she got home, and then she joked, “u suck, I wanted to cut the grass” 😂

If you teach her, she'll be in over her head and never actually do it, lol. She will probably learn why you can't mow wet grass. Remember to show her how to wash under the deck to remove all the caked‑on wet grass.
